TIPS FOR A GREAT VISIT FROM SANTA CLAUS

For the best experience, Santa believes that a 30 minute visit is sufficient for most single-family home parties — the magic and excitement of Santa Claus and the North Pole can begin to fade if Santa stays too long.
Some visits can go longer depending on the number of children, additional families included or special activities planned. Santa Paul will work closely with you to plan a schedule that is very special with the activities and traditions that are important to you.
- SANTA ALWAYS STAYS IN CHARACTER: It’s very important that you treat Santa Paul as Santa Claus and not as someone that plays Santa Claus. Please brief your adult guests that Santa never breaks from character. This is essential and something many adults do without thinking about the implications for children. For example, don’t say things like “You’re one of the finest Santas I’ve seen” or ask when he first began playing Santa or where he got his costume. Help Santa Paul keep the magic and wonder of Christmas in place for your children, family, and friends.
- PARKING: Please have a parking spot available for Santa. It should be very close to the event as Santa Claus is a jolly older gentleman carrying a large toy sack while wearing a heavy velvet suit. A method that works well for street or driveway parking is to have someone park in Santa’s spot prior to the event. You can then move your car as Santa Claus arrives and parks in his special reserved space. As the reindeer and sleigh only fly on Christmas Eve, Santa loves to explain to children how the Elves and Helpers around the world arrange transportation for Santa Visits. The Elves and Santa are especially grateful to the airlines of the world for all their assistance in coordinating Santa’s travels throughout the world and helping Santa Claus visit with so many children.
- CELL PHONE: Provide a cell phone number of someone at the event who will be available for constant contact with Santa Paul. Santa will stay in touch with you about his arrival time and other details.
- CONTACT TO MEET SANTA OUTSIDE: Please have a person outside to meet Santa and show him the way and load toys into his toy bag if needed. Santa will contact you 5-10 minutes prior to his arrival.
- HAVE YOUR GIFTS READY: Santa will gladly hand out candy and gifts that you provide. Name tags on gifts should be clearly labeled and attached well. Any challenging pronunciations should be communicated to Santa before the event. All of the packages should be able to fit into a 50 gallon lawn waste bag. Santa Claus will place the packages into the toy bag before entering your home. Santa always appreciates a helper that can assist with getting the presents out to everyone. Santa Claus prefers to hand out presents near the end of a visit so that children remain engaged with storytelling, questions, and other activities.
- SANTA’S GRAND ENTRANCE: Plan for your guests to arrive before Santa Claus. Everyone should be together and ready for Santa’s entrance as the magic of the moment is a child’s joy. As Santa arrives, have everyone participating in a common task such as making finishing touches to the Christmas tree, placing presents under the tree, or singing Christmas carols.
- HAVE A SPECIAL CHAIR FOR SANTA: Santa likes a solid and stable wooden chair such as a straight back dining chair with no arms.
- ROOM TEMPERATURE: Santa’s suit is very warm — it can be difficult for Santa to perform if your event space is too warm. Please do not place his chair in front of a lit fireplace, heating vent, or other warm area. A thermostat set at no more than 68 degrees works well for Santa.
- HANDING OUT OF GIFTS: Santa Paul loves to hand out the gifts and have everyone wait and open them together. Santa starts the countdown —– “5, 4, 3, 2, 1 …… MERRY CHRISTMAS!!”. Wrapping paper flies in all directions. Santa Claus then gets a group photo with everyone holding their presents.
- PHOTOGRAPHS: If Santa will be seated for photos try to avoid “back lit” background areas for your pictures such as a window, a plain white wall, or lighting that is behind Santa. A Christmas tree always makes for a pretty background. A decorated wall with a wreath, garlands, bows, or other festive items make a wonderful backdrop and will give your photos a special feel. It’s a great idea to leave a couple of feet between Santa’s chair and the wall to allow others to gather round for group photos.
- SMOKING: Please do not allow smoking when Santa is present. Santa Claus normally smells like peppermint. If someone is smoking, Santa’s suit may absorb the smell and disappoint the children.
- PETS: If there are any pets that might become overly excited by the presence of Santa Claus, it would be best for them to relax in another room. Santa does not take photos with pets on his lap as other children may have an allergy to pet dander. Santa Claus is happy to have a picture taken with you sitting next to Santa while holding your pet.
