The New Toy Season Begins

The New Toy Season Begins

The new toy season begins in Santa's workshop -- an exciting time.

For many, Christmas ends when the lights come down and the last ornaments are tucked away. But, at the North Pole, something remarkable happens. The workshop doors open again – not with noise or hurry but with a soft chiming sound like bells. This is when toy-making truly begins.

Not hurried. Not loud. But magical.

The start of the new toy season is always an exciting time for me. The workshop is, for Santa, a magical place where I can think about the toys I will build and the joy they will bring! It is then that a deep sense of gratitude fills my heart when I am reminded of the wonderful task I have been entrusted with.

The First Day Back in the Workshop

The workshop is quieter in these early weeks. The elves move at a gentler pace warming their hands by mugs of cocoa and opening windows to let in the crisp North Pole air. This is not a season of rush.

I begin first by always doing one thing: listening. Letters are reread. Drawings are carefully unfolded. Some wishes are for toys, yes, but many are for courage, for healing, for togetherness. These wishes guide the work ahead. Every toy begins not with wood or paint but with understanding.

The Designs That Appear on Their Own

In Santa’s workshop, designs are not always drawn – sometimes they just appear.

Blank parchment rests on long wooden tables, and as the elves gather, faint glowing lines slowly trace themselves across the page. A rocking horse forms its curves. A puzzle reveals hidden paths. A train clicks into perfect proportion.

The appearance of these designs is a special kind of Chirstmans magic that is not well understood. The ideas are given shape guided by centuries of knowing what brings joy.

I study each design carefully. With my gloved finger, I tap the page and the drawing lifts into the air and becomes a revolving, somewhat transparent, three dimensional figure – hovering in the air so that every elf can see it from all sides. If something feels off, the lines gently rearrange themselves until the design is just right.

Materials Chosen by the North Pole Itself

Wood in Santa’s workshop is not ordinary wood. It hums softly when cut, straightens itself when warmed, and remembers its shape long after sanding is finished. Fabrics seem to cooperate and never fray where they shouldn’t. Paint settles into color that never fades.

Elves don’t force materials into submission. They ask the materials to help in creating the perfect toy.

A hammer strike rings like a tiny bell. Gears align without protest. When a joint fits perfectly, there’s a brief sparkle as if the toy itself is pleased.

Building with Enchanted Tools

Every elf has a specialty and every tool has a personality.

Some saws sing as they cut. Measuring tapes curl and unroll on their own  snapping precisely to the correct length. Tiny screwdrivers glow when turned just enough and dim when over-tightened.

I walk the floor slowly adjusting nothing unless it’s needed. I lift toys, listen to them, and give a small nod when they are ready to move on to the next stage.

Testing the Toys

Testing is where the magic becomes playful.

Balls bounce higher than expected then settle into the right bounce. Wind-up toys march proudly across worktables before returning to their starting place on their own. Dolls blink, puzzles rearrange, and wooden animals bow politely when approved.

If a toy fails, it doesn’t break. It simply goes quiet and waits patiently to be made better.

Storing the Finished Wonders

When a toy is complete, it’s placed gently on shelves that seem to grow longer every year. The shelves glow faintly keeping each toy safe, warm, and perfectly preserved until winter returns.

Each finished toy gives off a soft shimmer which is barely noticeable unless you’re looking for it. That shimmer is the final sign: the toy is ready.

A Workshop That Never Stops Believing

I do not rush this work. I never have.

Because magic, when treated carefully, lasts longer. And toys built with time, skill, and a little North Pole wonder carry something extra with them – something children feel the moment they touch them.

So while the world thinks Christmas is over, know this:

The designs are already glowing.
The tools are already humming.
And in Santa’s workshop, the magic of next Christmas is quietly taking shape.
